Having a heat wave

Just some photos of what we've been up to lately. The heat is suppose to return this weekend so we may just play in the pool...

Or go to the zoo...

Or just sit around and contemplate life...

SUPER - Slide

Potty training - we're getting there. Here's one of the rewards!

"Diabetes go away!"

"Wishing"

There comes a time in life when you realize that your child "gets it". Today was that day.

Chase has a flare for the dramatics at times, hence one of his many nicknames, "Drama King". I figured today was one of those days because he scraped his leg getting into his car seat. I told him that it couldn't have hurt that bad to create such a fuss and that maybe we should test his blood to see if that was part of the reason for the dramatics. It wasn't. It went much deeper than dramatics and a blood sugar of 169 (a good number).

As I pulled out his glucometer he sobbed, "I have diabetes. I don't like diabetes. Diabetes go away." Ten hours later, that moment still haunts me. All I could do was run my fingers through his beautiful blond hair and tell him I'd take it from him if I could.

We proceeded on with our planned trip to the museum. On the way in, we stopped at the outside fountain to throw some coins into the wishing well. You can guess what we both wished for.

Chase Makes News

Chase was featured on one of our local TV stations yesterday. The clinic asked if we would do an interview on how his pump has changed our lives. Also featured in the segment is his diabetes nurse, Maysil (we love her!!). And, most importantly to Chase, his Farmal tractor made the news.
Here is a link to the story:

Feel good story

Just a feel-good story for a beautiful Friday morning. I don't get into any of the reality shows, but I caught this story on the news yesterday and it put a lump in my throat.

Tattoos and impending motherhood

Where did Chase get the idea to put a "tattoo" on his forehead? That would be from my sister telling him he could at my grandpa's 100th birthday party. I wanted him tattoo-free for the big event and she thought it funny to put that idea in to his head. Now it is on his head. The little bugger did this while I was busy "nesting". I'm not sure if I'm going through the actual nesting process, or if I'm just worried about how my house will look while I'm in the hospital and someone is taking care of Chase.
Will I get revenge on my sister? I'm still contemplating the idea. Chase noticed a scar under my chin today and he asked me what happened. I told him that when I was little his auntie Kathryn threw me into a pool and my chin hit the edge of the pool. I told him that I got a cut and I now have a scar. His response was, "I need to kick her butt." Wait in line little guy.

Happy Farther's Day!

Happy Father's Day, Gary. You are a great dad to Chase and a wonderful husband. We are both so lucky to have you in our lives. Now, barring any rain tomorrow, we will give you that 1 hour of uninterrupted peace in the hammock that you requested. :-)

To my dear 'ol dad - you're the best. Although, I see a little bit too much of you in Chase sometimes and that freaks me out. :-)

Good intentions?

Chase bought a toy for his sister yesterday. I thought it was very nice of him to ask if he could buy her something. It wasn't until I turned around and saw all the John Deere baby toys that I knew his intentions weren't as honorable as I first thought (he is in bed right now with three toy tractors and a trailer).

"Her" toy is waiting on her dresser for her anyway.

Back to the grind

Vacation Photos (click to view)

We arrived home last night with a van full of luggage and to a yard full of grass. The vacation is officially over.
Chase was NOT happy as we pulled into our driveway. He said, "I don't want to go home. Oh, there's our stupid pickup." That was a big indication that he was not happy to end the vacation because, 1.) he knows he's not suppose to use the word stupid, and 2.) he loves the pickup.
Our excursion to Canada was short. It was cold and there weren't a lot of activities for Chase, so we decided to head back to Devils Lake. We drove through Minot on our way back and got a tour of Gary's aunt's art studio. It's something I've wanted to do for a year now, so it was nice to have the time to do it properly. She's quite a talented artist and a neat lady: http://www.zippermosaics.com/

Now, what to do the rest of the summer?!

Out of Dodge

We have begun the first lag of our summer vacation! We are stopping off in Devils Lake since my sister and her kids will be arriving here from Iowa soon. Oh, and Chase says something (repeatedly) about going on Boppa's boat, too.

It was a beautiful drive last night. Gary and I couldn't recall when it ever looked so green due to years of drought conditions in the state. My favorite part of the drive, though, was playing the song, "Fifty Ways to Leave Your Lover" for Chase. He likes to say, "Hop on the bus, Gus" (he's picking up a lot of my figures of speech lately which is both good and bad...today he told me "No way, Jose"...I hate when my words come back to bite me!). Anyway, we had a family sing along and it was fun to see him smile and laugh.

We will be heading to Canada on Wednesday to camp and just relax. Hopefully, we'll have lots of photos to post!
