I've been meaning to do this entry for some time now. It is long, long overdue.
It will be two years in November since Chase was diagnosed. Back then it seemed like life would never be the same again. When we came home from the hospital, I found myself holding up in the house with Chase. I vividly remember Gary telling me that I couldn't keep Chase in a bubble forever. I told him that I would if I could find a big enough bubble.
What I also remember from that time was Chase's day care provider, Sue, coming over with Chase's Christmas gift. As we visited, she kept saying, "When Chase comes back..." I was truly surprised that she'd wanted to take on the challenge of having a diabetic child in her care. And I'm forever grateful that she has because it enabled me to pop that bubble I wanted to put Chase in.
Sue has learned how to test Chase's blood, count carbs, recognize his highs and lows, and give him insulin with his pump without so much as a flinch. I feel she helped me regain some of those pieces of life that I feared I would never see again.
I try very hard to find the bright side to the challenges that life throws at me. What I've found 99.9% of the time, it's the people that have helped me get through them.
Thank you, Sue. Thank you.
